Introduction
The ISMT Thoracic, Lumbar and Pelvis module is a two day ( 15 contact hrs ) course that provides participants with the knowledge and skill to safely deliver high velocity, low amplitude (HLVA) manipulation to these regions. The course is approximately 30% instruction, with an emphasis on safety, and 70% hands on.
Over 40 different HVLA manipulations are covered across all articulations. A 200-page colour manual with detailed instructions is also provided. In addition, to supplement learning, successful completion of the module will give the participant access to the members area of the website containing video clips and instructors' contact details for future reference. For a list of all the benefits of completing an ISMT course, please see our accreditation benefits page.

Prerequisites
In order to attend the ISMT Thoracic, Lumbar and Pelvis module, you must be licensed to perform spinal manipulation, or be a current student of a profession that is allowed to perform spinal manipulation. In most countries you must be either a Medical practitioner, Chiropractor, Physiotherapist / Physical Therapist or Osteopath. It is your responsibility to check with your relevant governing bodies to see if spinal manipulation is within your scope of practice.
Once you have registered for the Thoracic, Lumbar and Pelvis module, you will be e-mailed pre-reading material. The material will be tested on the morning of the first day of the seminar. This is to ensure that we can maximise one on one interaction, developing your skills, and not spend valuable time lecturing on the theory whilst attending the seminar. You must achieve a pass in all sections. If any sections are failed you may still continue with the seminar, however you must complete an assignment on the relevant failed section before you will gain accreditation for the course.
What you will learn.
1. The indications, precautions and contra-indications (relative and absolute) of high-velocity, low amplitude (HVLA) thrust manipulation of the thoracic, lumbar and pelvic regions.
2. The ability to describe manipulation and its effects on both the mechanics and neurophysiology of the body.
3. Intricate knowledge of the anatomy of the thoracic, lumbar and pelvic regions.
4. The legal implications of spinal manipulation to the thoracic, lumbar and pelvic regions.
5. The possible responses to manipulation of the thoracic, lumbar and pelvic regions and what to do in the case of an emergency.
6. Technique selection and how to use the mechanics of the spine to target and develop pretension in a spinal motion unit.
7. The psychomotor skills needed to deliver a HVLA thrust manipulation.
8. Sound clinical reasoning and the ability to demonstrate safe, competent and efficient performance of a HVLA thrust manipulation, including positioning and development of tension using biomechanical principles, in the thoracic, lumbar and pelvic regions.
9. The literature pertaining to manipulation of the lumbar, thoracic and pelvic regions.
