Introduction
The extremity module equips participants with the knowledge and skill necessary to safely and effectively deliver over 80 high velocity, low amplitude (HLVA) moves to the extremity articulations.
The seminar consists of 15 contact hours with 75% hands-on and 25% theoretical instruction. All participants receive a 200-page full colour manual detailing every move. In addition, following successful completion of the module, participants will gain exclusive access to the online members area. This exclusive area permits access to video clips and instructor contact details to supplement your learning once you leave the seminar, amongst many other things. For more information, please see our accreditation benefits page.

Prerequisites
In order to attend the ISMT extremity module you must be licensed to perform extremity manipulation or be a current student of a profession that is allowed to perform extremity manipulation. In most countries, you must be either a Medical practitioner, Chiropractor, Physiotherapist / Physical Therapist or Osteopath. It is your responsibility to check with your relevant governing bodies to see if extremity manipulation is within your scope of practice.
Once you have registered for the extremity spine course you will be e-mailed pre-reading material. The material will be tested on the morning of the first day of the seminar. This is to ensure that we can maximise one on one interaction developing your skills and not spend valuable time lecturing on the theory. You must achieve a pass in all sections. If any sections are failed, you may still continue with the seminar, however you must complete an assignment on the relevant failed section before you will gain accreditation for the course.
What you will learn.
1. The indications, precautions and contra-indications (relative and absolute) of high-velocity, low amplitude (HVLA) thrust manipulation of the extremity articulations.
2. The ability to describe manipulation and its effects on both the mechanics and neurophysiology of the body.
3. Intricate knowledge of the anatomy of each extremity region and its articulations.
4. The legal implications of extremity HVLA thrust manipulations.
5. Possible responses to manipulation of the extremity articulations and what to do in the case of an emergency.
6. Technique selection and how to use the mechanics of the joint extremity to target and develop pretension in an articulation.
7. How to develop the psychomotor skills needed to deliver a HVLA thrust manipulation.
8. Sound clinical reasoning and the ability to demonstrate safe, competent and efficient performance of a HVLA thrust manipulation including, positioning and development of tension using biomechanical principles.
9. The current literature pertaining to manipulation.
